What are the goals and ambitions of the new majority of the 118th Congress?

In case you are unfamiliar with how things move and shake through our congress, the ginormous bills chock full of complex legal jargon are pieced together by being run through committees. A congressional committee is an appointed team of representatives who spec into specific aspects of how they influence the law. I like to think of politicians like professors: they have to know a little bit about all subjects, but they specialize in certain fields. How does 435 different people, with different priorities know how to vote on certain bills or amendments? They heard the summary and recommendations of the committee or subcommittee overseeing that field of legislating. The Chair is kind of like a “Speaker” for the committee members, setting the agenda and pressing their thumbs on the scales. Now that the GOP have a majority, despite it being a very slim one, they get to appoint committee members, and more importantly their chairs.
